About this Item

Overview

Have you ever felt a sense of lack? That you’re not strong enough? Not confident or courageous enough? That you simply don’t have what it takes to endure the pains and difficulties of life?

In this 8-session, verse-by-verse study on 2 Corinthians, Christine Hoover guides you through one of Paul’s most personal letters to discover how God is the ultimate source of the strength and sufficiency you need. You’ll find that God gives you strength to go on—through troubles, disappointments, and temptations—and strength to go forth, equipping you to serve Him and compelling you to share the gospel. Weakness is not a disqualifier or a flaw in our design. In fact, God shows Himself most powerfully in and through our fragility and vulnerability. We’re called, then, not to work harder or to hide our weaknesses, but to call upon God’s infinite resources and rely on Him.

Video Sessions:
  • Session 1: Introduction to 2 Corinthians (33:11)—In the Session 1 video teaching, Christine shares a portion of her own story of suffering to set the stage for the study of 2 Corinthians. She also provides context for the letter by discussing characters, setting, and themes of one of Paul’s most personal letters.
  • Session 2: More than Enough for Suffering (36:48)—Christine unpacks the theme of comfort in 2 Corinthians 1:1-11 in the second video teaching. She talks about how the God of all comfort, comforts us in all our trials and difficulties. Then points out that we are to enter into the suffering of others by comforting them with the same kind of comfort we have received. She closes the teaching by sharing practical ways we can comfort others.
  • Session 3: More than Enough for Service (30:24)—Christine digs into passages from chapter two in the Session 3 video teaching to emphasize that we don’t minister and serve out of our own power and ability, but it is God who makes us competent to serve. She reminds us that we can be confident in ministry not only because God empowers us, but He also is the one responsible for the results.
  • Session 4: More than Enough for Steadfastness (29:58)—In this video teaching, Christine focuses on a part of 2 Corinthians that she calls one of the most beautiful passages in the letter. She unpacks portions of chapters four and five to show that though life can be difficult, we can walk steadfastly in faith as we look back to what God has done in the past and look forward to what He is going to do for us in the future.
  • Session 5: More than Enough for Sincerity (37:58)—Session 5 video teaching focuses on our calling to be ambassadors for Christ. Christine will lead us through sections of chapters five and six to show that Christ’s ambassadors are to be people of sincerity in our motivation, relationships, and actions. And that we are to continually be growing in sincerity marked by a heart of repentance and constant pursuit of holiness.
  • Session 6: More than Enough for Sharing (34:19)—Generosity is the theme of the Session 6 video teaching. Christine unpacks passages in chapters eight and nine of 2 Corinthians to show how generosity is an act of grace, with the ultimate picture of grace giving being found in Christ’s sacrifice on our part. She’ll challenge us to be cheerful givers, understanding that generosity is profitable for the giver and the receiver.
  • Session 7: More than Enough for Strength (32:18)—In the Session 7 video teaching, Christine begins by focusing on the ways, teachings, and values of the false teachers. She’ll point out that they foolishly boasted in their strength, while Paul boasted in his weakness. We’ll be called to be like Paul, trusting God’s even in our most difficult times and knowing that in our weakness He is strong.
  • Session 8: More than Enough for Salvation and Sanctification (32:34)—Paul had been hurt by the Corinthian church, yet, as Christine will point out in this final teaching video, he loved them deeply and continued to pursue them. She will examine portions of chapter twelve and thirteen to show Paul confronting the Corinthians about their relationship with Christ and exhorting them and us toward spiritual maturity.
