Video Sessions:
- Session One: Introduction (7:04)—In this introduction to the themes of Psalm 40, Sarah Mae discusses the need for honesty in the church, honesty with God and with other people. Psalm 40 leads us to bring our joys and pains before the God who cares for us.
- Session Two: Crying Out (7:25)—The Psalms tell us the truth that God hears our cry. They teach us to deal with our pain and anger in a way that honors God and is life-giving for us. In Session Two, Sarah Mae discusses the power in vulnerability and putting truth into practice.
- Session Three: Waiting (8:31)—Waiting is hard, but if we wait for God, we can find peace that transcends circumstance. When we anchor our hope in God, He gives life and joy.
- Session Four: God Inclines to Us (8:31)—Throughout the Bible, we see that God inclines, comes down to help as a father to a child, to hear the cries of His children. He helps even the most unlikely of people, people who the world has overlooked. He sees you in your pain, and He offers hope.
- Session Five: Lifted and Steadied (5:01)—In our troubles, the metaphorical pits of our lives, we often can't pull ourselves out. We need Jesus to lift us out of these pits and set our feet on the solid ground of our security in Christ. Psalm 40 teaches us more about how this works practically in our lives.
- Session Six: A New Song (7:51)—In delivering us, God gives us new songs to sing. We exchange the song of lament or pain for the song of joy in salvation. In Session Six, Sarah Mae discusses the tension between God's goodness and pain we sometimes feel, highlighting how we can reconcile the two when life gets hard.
- Session Seven: People Will See (6:04)—Our life stories aren't our own. They are meant to give glory to God as we tell others how He has rescued us and wants to rescue them too.
- Session Eight: Your Turn (3:39)—In this final video, Sarah Mae charges us to walk forward in confident trust in God's truth, sharing our Psalm 40 stories with others, to the glory of God.
